Spring Cleaning Checklist
We all welcome spring time with open arms. Melting snow and blooming flowers bring a heightened sense of excitement since summer is just around the corner. Before we welcome the heat wave, make sure you prepare your home with these simple steps to spring cleaning.
Cleaning Windows
Window washing is a chore no one wants to start. Yet every spring, your windows are in desperate need of a thorough washing. Start with your blinds by creating your own cleaning solution, this can be done by mixing 3 tablespoons of ammonia, 1 tablespoon of vinegar and a cup of water. Spray a clean rag with the solution and wipe down blinds thoroughly. Once you have finished with your blinds, it’s time to tackle your windows. Many department stores sell glass-cleaning solutions that leave little streaking. Be sure to clean both sides of your windows. Many newer windows open inward so you can tackle both sides from the inside. We know a two story home can be harder to clean, so be sure to hire a professional.
Cleaning Carpets
Carpets can be a large chore to accomplish. Over winter months, dust and dirt are ground into high traffic areas that can break down carpet fibers and cause permanent damage. It’s always good to remember to vacuum at least once a week throughout the year to pick up as much dirt as possible. It is recommended that you have your carpets steamed cleaned by professionals once a year. This will prolong the life of your carpets while keeping them looking new. If your budget doesn’t allow for a professional carpet cleaning, you always have the option of renting a steam cleaner.
Cleaning Wood Floors
Your wood floors start to look dull if not cleaned properly. Washing your floors with generic floor cleaner can often leave residue on the wood once they have dried. Try combining ? cup of vinegar to 1 gallon of water as a cleaning solution. When washing, make sure there is no standing water as this will warp and dull the wood quickly. Once the floors have dried, apply professional grade wax to the floor. This will provide shine without the greasy/slippery feeling while protecting the wood at the same time.
Dusting
Dusting is one of the most important chores to preform, especially during spring cleaning. By minimizing the amount of dust, there are less allergens traveling throughout your home. This goes hand and hand with maintaining your HVAC system. Changing your air filters frequently will help minimize the dust and dirt running throughout your system. There are many cleaning sprays that reduce the amount of allergens while successfully cleaning dust.
Keep in mind your air ducts need to be cleaned about once a year by a professional as well. This allows the air to be properly cleaned with minimal dust being sent around your home. Professional cleaning is required since High-Efficiency vacuuming equipment is required.
Donations
Spring cleaning is a great time to declutter your home as well. Make an active plan to clean out your closet, attic and garage. Donate anything that can be worn or reused to charities or donation boxes. You can help those in need while decluttering your life all in one step.
Spring cleaning is a great time to get your home ready for the summer months. Dusting and deep cleaning will help rid your home of excess dirt and allergens to keep you and your family healthy. Don’t hesitate to call a professional cleaning company whenever you are in need of housework help.
